Releasing the Prophetic in the Secret Place
Let’s look at Psalm 91:
“He who dwells in the Secret Place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
Psalm 91: 1-2
As we abide in the Secret Place, walking NOW in the Holy Spirit, there is a voice and a cry that is stirred up inside of us such that we have to SAY. Oh, how the Holy Spirit brings forth words that testify to how we trust in Him. In the Secret Place, we stand renewed and the vision is so clear, real and alive in us that we must SAY.
Smith Wigglesworth explained:
Psalm 91: 1 says, ‘He that dwelleth in the Secret Place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.’ Do You know the Presence of Almighty? It is wonderful. It is surety, with no wavering, no unbelief, no unrest there, It is perfect!
He further added:
“My great desire is to see men become strong in the Lord by dwelling in the Secret Place, which is known to all who fear Him.
There is power in the anointed prophetic words that come from the heart of the Father, and the Holy Spirit pour into our spirits which then must speak. But we want the real prophetic and not brain tissue revelation.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- is not the Father but is of the world.”
1 John 2: 15-17
Please note that the word for love is the Greek, ‘Agapao,’ and it means the divine love which is demonstrated and revealed through the laying down of our lives. Are we so in love with the world or the world’s ways of doing things that it has captured our hearts?
Love demands a voice and causes action. Love pulls us towards what has captured our hearts. Difficult seasons expose the heart and become seasons to spark in us a desire to draw near to Him. If we are to draw even closer to Him, love is critical. Are we simply bringing mechanical worship? Are we simply a lot of noise or a voice? Are we busy doing and not being?
In this generation, we speak of love, but it is not divine love, and everything we do as believers must be an outflow of the divine.
Listen to these verses:
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. Ad though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13: 1-3
Now look at the things Paul mentions and think about them. These are great things, and are they not manifestations of love? Oh, how many things sound so great naturally speaking but yet fail to touch the heart of the Father.
Smith explained:
“I want you to see that the primary thought in this passage is that when love is in perfect progress, other things will work in harmony, for prophetic utterances are no value unless perfectly covered by divine love.”
His love operates in holy fear. Oh, if we received a love letter from someone we cherished, each word we would memorize and treasure. We would never think of adding or distorting the letter. We would never think of misrepresenting the one we loved.
Smith said:
“Jesus was so full of love to His Father and love to us that love never failed to accomplish its purpose. It works in us and through us by the power if the Father’s love in Him. This is what must come into our lives. Christ is to be the all-in-all of all things. All our doings, sayings, workings must be in Him and unto Him.”
Everything He says and does is always in love. Faith worketh by love, and every real prophetic utterance must drip with His love, His holiness, and His righteousness.
Smith said:
Pentecostal people sometimes make prophetic utterance a side issue. They think they are obliged to rise up and speak because the Spirit is upon them. This is not true- and again it is true. If they are in the right place- hidden away in Christ, saturated with His love- they will have such unction as to be balanced and always have spiritual utterance that pleases Him. It will all be to edification.”
Edification in His love always builds us up in His truth. We claim to speak prophetic utterances, but our lives remain unchanged, and there is no holy fear. Oh, precious utterances are life-changing and build the Body. Many want nice words that tickle the ears. In 1 Kings chapter twenty-two, Ahab faced a difficult situation so-called the prophets. They all give him a word he wanted to hear, just like so many prophets today. We have prophets for profit.
“And Jehoshaphat said, ‘Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him? So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, ‘There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.”
1 Kings 22: 7-8
Can you imagine if we sought the real? We have prophets who speak words and then spiritualize the Word to make their words true. Should we ignore the prophetic?
“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.”
1 Corinthians 14: 1
Smith explained:
“that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put His spirit upon the! And this is to me a revelation that God would have us in such a spiritual, holy place that he can take our words and so fill them with divine power that we speak in the Spirit right alone in prophetic utterance.’
As Spirit-filled believers, we should so abide in the Secret Place and in the Spirit that His love would pour forth prophetic words that reveal His love for the brethren. Smith said:
Beloved, there is human language on the human plane, and there is a divine incoming into the same language so that it changed by spiritual power and made to live to those who hear. That divine touch of prophetic utterance will never come on any line except being filled by the Spirit.”
The real prophetic harmonizes with the Word and plan of the Lord. Smith said:
“If you wish to be anything for God, do not miss the plan. You cannot afford to be on the ordinary lines. You must realize that within you there is a power of the Spirit that is forming everything you require.”
Oh, if we would learn to abide in the Secret Place, we would become shofars of the Lord or instruments His Spirit may blow through a make a sound and a declaration. The Lord never violates His operations and honors His delegated authorities on the earth. He comes to us and speaks of the impossible and shall these bones live. He calls us by His Spirit to prophecy.
Smith explained:
“When the Holy Ghost comes in His fulness he comes into a man to move him so that he has to speak now in a different way.”
And
“The Holy Ghost is inspiration, revelation, manifestation, operation. When a man comes into the fulness of the Holy Ghost he is in perfect order, built on a scriptural foundation… When a man gets baptized with the Holy Ghost, he speaks from a deep inward conviction, by the power of the Spirit, a revelation of that Scripture.”
The Holy Spirit always honors the Word. Oh, the Holy Spirit comes in the seasons of need and desperation and as we yield in the Secret Place, He draws from the heart of the Father and impregnates the believer with a word. Smith said:
“Now what is the burden of my heart? The Lord knows more than I do about the burden, and the moment I kneel down I lose all my English. I am in the Presence of God and He takes me right on to victory. Talk about praying in the Holy Ghost, there is nothing like it! There is a secret about it. It is a secret between you and God. It is purely a Holy Ghost utterance.”
Do we prophesy in the Spirit and allow utterance to come forth breaking things open and releasing the Lord’s purpose on the earth?
We must understand that out of the abundance of His love He comes to bless and impart life and answers to us. Smith said:
It is not a measure but a pressed down measure; and not only a pressed down measure but a measure shaken together and running over. The baptism of the Spirit is an overflowing cup. Praise the Lord!”
