Smith Wigglesworth and the Treasury of Heaven
When we look throughout the Word, we see that Heaven never suffers a recession, supply chain issues, or any deficiency. Rather, you will always see He has an abundance, and He gives abundantly.
“I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.”
Psalm 116: 1, 2
And then we have:
“Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”
Psalm 34: 9, 10
His heart is that we never lack but that we always stand blessed. On this fallen earth, we may see difficult seasons, and the world may know lack, but His children should always stand blessed. The Lord so often wants to prepare us for such seasons through proactive prayer. We must learn to hear the call of the Holy Spirit to come aside, and we must learn to yield and allow Him the freedom to pray through us.
“On a certain time on a certain day the Spirit of the Lord moved upon me, I was so moved by the power of the Spirit that I went into a place alone to pray. As I went there, believing that just as I was going to open my mouth and pray, the Spirit lay hold of me and I was praying in the Spirit- not with understanding, but praying in the Spirit.”
There is such power in praying in the Spirit. We need to learn to pray more in the Spirit and make ourselves always available for the Holy Spirit to pray through us. We may not know if we are praying for ourselves or someone else, but what we do know is we are praying for the perfect will of God. Smith said:
“So there are revivals to come, there are wonderful things to be done when we can be lost till the Spirit prays through.”
We allow ourselves to become caught up in our circumstances and overwhelmed by our needs, and consumed by our bad reports. How many hours the enemy has stolen days, months, and years through such things? Sadly, He is typically our last resort when we should live in the abundant harvest of continual sowing to the Spirit.
Smith said:
“It is only He, it is He who rolls away the cloud. He alone is the One who lifts the fallen, cheers the faint, brings fresh oil, and changes the countenance, It is the Lord thy God. He has seen thy misery, He has known thy heart brokenness, and He has known how near you seem to be to despair… Oh, beloved, God is in the midst of us to help us into these wonderful divine places of appointment!”
May we never miss our divine appointments! He wants us to learn the importance of sowing to the Spirit.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6: 8-10
We must not grow weary or allow ourselves to exhaust our strength, our vigor, and our freshness. How often has our prayer life become stale and lose our spiritual freshness? So how do we stay fresh? Stay in the Secret Place!
Smith explained:
“How exhaustless is the treasure house of the Most High! How near is God to us when we are willing to draw nigh! And how He comes with refreshing to us when our hearts are attuned and desire Him only, for the desire of the righteous shall be granted.”
Our flesh will convince us to pull back or take a break, but the Holy Spirit will counsel us to come aside day after day. Oh, but we have seen nothing! Oh, the harvest has not come, and we have waited long! We continue to wait, yet no harvest comes! Our flesh says, “what you need is a break!” The flesh comes and persuades us of all the reasons why we need to stop. Then it comes down to the battle of the Spirit and the flesh.
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish.”
Galatians 5: 16, 17
If we could understand this principle and why we are always sowing, the question is, what are we sowing to? Those times spent in the Secret Place seeking His face and praying in the Spirit produce powerful results.
Smith said:
“God has for us today a stimulation of divine acquaintance, a life divine to flow through our being that shall be sufficient for us in all times of need. When God is for you, who can be against you? What a blessed assurance this is to the hungry heart. How it thrills one to the very depths of their soul.”
There is joy and refreshing found in the Secret Place that we need, yet our flesh resists us. We miss the church! We miss our prayer times! We miss our Word time! We think we will be refreshed if we just pull back and take a break. But we always remain surviving on the bare minimum, and then in time of trial or lack, our tanks are empty. The harvest we desperately need fails as we fail to water it and care for it.
Smith said:
Are you ready? What for? To have some of those promises fulfilled. Are you ready? What for? That God shall this day so clothe you with the Spirit that there shall be nothing within that shall war against the Spirit, Are you ready? Search your heart diligently.”
Oh, there is a powerful key- search your heart diligently. So much of our spiritual walk becomes mechanical over time, and we lose the freshness, and we lose the touch of the Spirit. Smith said:
“I am so desirous that you should get so stimulated with prospective condition, then come into a realizing condition, because that is what God wants you to have; to get so moved by the power of God to believe that the things that you hear shall be yours.”
Oh, how it breaks the Lord’s heart to see His children walking in lack and defeat. It is never His desire or will. But every time we remain soft and obedient to the Spirit and come away, our ears hear more effectively. However, every time we refuse, we harden our hearts and clog our ears. Then our flesh points to the Lord and declares the Lord has failed us. How many times do we break His heart, not just because we accuse Him incorrectly, but also because we walk in defeat?
Smith said:
“So many people miss a great many things because they are always on the line of thinking it was for someone else. I want you to know that God’s Word is for you, and you are to make a personal application for all there is in the Scripture.”
Oh, for a refreshing so that we gain back our confidence and boldness of Spirit. The times of sowing in the Spirit always stir up the gift. With the Lord, all things are always made new! On this earth, everything ages and begins to fail. But in Him, all things are made new. We need our hope renewed! Our vision renewed! Our strength renewed! Our spirit renewed!
He wants you to know that He is the God who answers prayer and delights His children. There is no lack in Him, and with Him, we can also walk and know no lack.
