Smith Wigglesworth- Speak to Your Mountain
In Mark chapter eleven, Jesus gives a lesson on faith. He explained:
“Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever thing you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
Mark 11: 22-24
If we add to this the story of the centurion where we learn:
“The centurion answered and said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only SPEAK A WORD, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.’ When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”
Matthew 8: 8-10
Smith Wigglesworth explained:
“He that believeth.’ What a word! God’s Word changes us and we enter into fellowship and communion, into faith assurance and Godlikeness, for we saw the truth and believed. Faith is an operative power, God opens the understanding and reveals Himself.”
Jesus explained that the key is having “faith in God.” We must have our eyes opened to see Him for Who He is and His authority over all things. Then, like the centurion, we must understand that directed words release authority.
Smith explained:
“Jesus drew the hearts of the people to Himself’ they came to Him with all of their needs and He relieved them all. He talked to men, he healed the sick, relieved the oppressed, and cast out demons,”
If we look at the Creation or earthly ministry of Jesus, we first realize that all authority is in Him, and then through His words, He conveyed and commanded His purpose to come forth.
Smith explained:
“The works that I do shall he do also.’ ‘He that believeth on Me…’ The essence of divine life is in us by faith. He that believeth- it will come to pass; we become supernatural by the power of God. If you believe, the power of God. If you believe, the power of the enemy cannot stand, for God’s Word is against him.”
In life, we can listen to the voice of our circumstances, symptoms, or the situation, and receive this voice as the authority. We accept and receive it as truth, and we have what we receive.
Or, we can choose to hear the Word, accepting the Word has final authority and that what the Word says is greater than our circumstances, symptoms, or situations.
Jesus explained that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
Luke 6: 45
The word “evil” here comes from the Greek word “poneros,” and it means: full of labors, annoyances, hardships, pressed and harassed by labors, and full of perils. So, we see that what we accept as the greatest authority, we receive into the heart, which soon consumes it. What has captured our hearts is the abundance of words that come forth from the heart.
Some people claim to believe and seek to persuade you this is true by their confession, but the truth always comes out. The words that truly carry authority are the ones that have captured the heart. Smith explained:
“Shouting won’t cast out an evil spirit, but there is an anointing that is gloriously felt within and brings the act of casting out the demon into perfect harmony with the will of God. We cannot help shouting, though shouting won’t do it. The power over evil spirits is in the ministry of the knowledge that He is Lord over all demons, over all powers of wickedness.”
We can pray what sounds like a perfect prayer and yet fail to receive it. We can sound loud and bold and make a perfect confession and yet still not get the victory. What is missing? As Smith just explained, it comes from understanding authority. When what He says is final authority, then our words are spoken in faith, and that makes a difference. When His Word is the final authority, and the devil dares to challenge the Word, something stirs inside of us, and in faith, we speak to the mountain, demanding it to move.
Smith explained:
“If you believe, the power of the enemy cannot stand, for God’s Word is against him. Jesus gives us His Word to make faith effectual. Whatsoever ye desire, if you can believe in your heart you begin to say; whatever you dare to say shall be done. He shall have whatsoever he saith after he believes in his heart. Dare to believe and then dare to speak, for you shall have whatsoever you say if you doubt not.”
In our hearts, as we read the Word, we gain a vision of the will and purpose of the Lord, and faith stirs as we realize He is absolute authority, and then a shout comes forth as we understand the devil seeks through a lie to steal the victory. But, as we stand before Him in the Secret Place, we stop tolerating in our lives the words of the enemy, and we arise and speak to them the anointed Word.
Smith explained:
“One day a pet dog followed a lady out of her house and ran all around her feet. She said to the dog, ‘My dear, I cannot have you with me today.’ The dog wagged its tail and made a big fuss. She said, ‘Go home, my dear.’ But the dog did not go. At last she shouted roughly, ‘Go home,’ and off it went. Some people deal with the Devil like that. The devil can stand all the comfort you like to give him. Cast him out! You are not dealing with the person; you are dealing with the devil. Demon power must be dislodged in the Name of the Lord.”
Many years ago, after I finished university, I began teaching at a college. The first few months were very difficult as students constantly challenged my authority. I tried everything from shouting and seeking to make myself sound like I had authority. But it didn’t work. The problem was I had no revelation of the authority that I had, so that it was revealed in my actions and words. When we don’t have the revelation of authority, we seek to force others and things to submit to our authority. But when you get the revelation of true authority, you come prepared and ready. You act with wisdom and with confidence in your authority. Your ‘yes’ becomes yes. And your ‘no’ is a no! We stop tolerating the enemy playing games, and we take control of the situation by believing the Word.
To walk with authority demands being prepared. This means spending time with Him and in His Word. We need to learn from Him, and He and His truth must become bigger in us than the problem. What you give your ear to will soon command the heart, so listen to the Spirit and the Word.
It is not our fabricated confessions, but declaring what we believe in the heart to be true that touches Heaven and changes earth.
When we realize His Word is truth, then we must rise up and take a stand against our circumstances choosing to believe the report of the Word to take a stand and speak to the problem. Smith explained:
“Some people would be giants in faith if only they had a shout.”
If we are fully persuaded in the heart, then a shout must come forth. A shout that demands and expects anything that stands in opposition to the will of God must bow to the authority of the Word. Smith said:
“You must learn to take the victory and shout in the face of the devil, ‘IT IS DONE!’ There is no man who can doubt if he learns to shout.”
And:
“Shout, ‘Get thee behind me, Satan,’ and you will have the best time on earth. Whisper is, and you won’t.”
