Smith Wigglesworth’s Insight Into Kept from Deception in the Secret Place

In these Last Days, we need to enjoy our vital fellowship with the Lord God in the Secret Place. If we are to be blessed to be a blessing, then we need to be found in the abiding place. Where we abide is essential in this hour. Jesus warned-

I am the vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the Word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”

John 15: 1-4

The deeper we press in to know Him, the more we find just how little we have come to know Him. We must daily seek to press deeper into the deeper waters that we might know Him.

Smith Wigglesworth said-

“If anyone had told me that I should be happier today than I was fourteen years ago when the Lord baptized me in the Spirit, I would not have believed him. But I see that God has more ahead for us, so that, so far, we have only touched the fringe of things. As we let the truth lay hold of us, we will press on for the mark ahead and enter more fully into our birthright- all that God says.”

This is an hour where we must stand washed in the truth of the Word. It is an hour of deception in which Jesus warned-

“For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to misled, if possible, even the elect.”

Matthew 24: 24

A strong deception on the earth right now controls the narrative and seeks to persuade people based on a concert of lies so they won’t receive the truth. Many ministries have strayed from the truth and now preach a different gospel.

“The beginning of wisdom is acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding.”

Proverbs 4: 7

We must earnestly desire His truth and to be washed in His Word.

“You hide them in the Secret Place of Your Presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.”

Psalm 31: 20

The Hebrew word used for “conspiracies” is “rokec” which means plots, snares, and dubious conspiracies of man.

We need to allow the Holy Spirit to come and be free to convict us and expose all wrong thinking in our lives. Smith said-

“When God’s Spirit comes in an the ruling, controlling power of life, He gives us God’s revelation of our inward poverty, and shows us that God has come with one purpose, and shows us that God has come with one purpose, to bring Heaven’s best to earth, and that with Jesus He indeed… ‘freely give us all things.”

In the abiding of the Secret Place, we daily become more in tune with His voice and recognize when His Spirit is grieved. John explained regarding deception-

“Children, it is the last hour; and just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all.”

1 John 2: 18-20

We have an anointing from the Holy One. We must understand He is holy and calls us to walk holy, which demand we walk in holy fear. Smith explained-

“But I must recognize the difference between my own spirit and the Holy Spirit. My own spirit can do certain things on natural lines, can even weep and pray and worship, but it is all on a human place, and we must not depend on our own human plane, and we must not depend on our own human thoughts and activities or on our own personality.”

Many are being moved by dreams, vision, and manifestation but as good as they may be, they all must bow to the absolute authority of the Word. Unfortunately, many are making the Word bow to the authority of their dreams, etc. We have allowed good opinions and thoughts to carry greater weight because we have not understood that our spirit must walk under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Many weep and pray and have an outward appearance of being right, but if it is not dripping of His anointing and bringing Him glory in all of it, then it is of our flesh and strange fire before the throne.

We must abide in His Word and live in the overflow of His Word. Smith said-

“It seems to me that every time I open my Bible I get a new revelation of God’s plan. God’s Spirit takes man to a place of helplessness, and then reveals God as his all and all.”

 Now listen to this

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Proverbs 9: 7

We don’t hear much holy fear today but must truly walk in holy fear before Him. Because of holy fear, we dare not allow our opinions to speak louder than His. We come broken and humble before Him.

“But there is a mourning in the Spirit. God will bring you to a place where things must be changed, and there is a mourning, an unutterable groaning until God comes. And the end of all real faith always is rejoicing.”

We must humble ourselves before the Most High and Holy One.

“God must come and reign supreme in your life. Will you let Him do it? He can do it, and He will if you will let Him. It is no use trying to tame the ‘old man.’ But God can deal with him. The carnal mind will never be subjected to God, but God will bring it to the Cross where it belongs, and will put in its place, the pure, the holy, the meek mind of the Master.”

We must be willing to humble ourselves in His Presence and allow Him to do His work through His Word and Spirit. We must walk so sensitive to the Holy Spirit that when He disturbs us on the inside, we know it and quickly humble ourselves. This is not a time to walk in what feels good or is the currently accepted message. It is easy to be emotionally captured by the message everyone is preaching or stirred up by an exciting message. But are people simply experiencing a message that inspires their natural man and fails to feed their spirit?

The Word must be our life’s breadth, and we must seek the unadulterated Word.

“Beloved when we get the Word so wonderfully into our hearts, it absolutely changes us in everything. As we feast on the Word of the Lord, eat and digest the truth, inwardly eat of Him, we are absolutely changed every day from one state of grace to another.”

He further said-

I implore you, beloved, that you do not come short in your own lives of any of these blessed teachings we have been sharing. These grand truths of the Word of God must be your testimony, must be your life, must be your pattern. You must be in the Word; in fact, you are of the Word. God says to you by the Spirit that “you are an epistle of Christ” (2 Cor. 3:3). Let us see to it that we put off everything thing so that by the grace of God we may put on everything.

The attack of this hour is to either dilute the Word or declare the Word or part of the Word to be irrelevant. Today there are many who claim that the Old Testament and even the Gospels are not for us as we are under grace. They preach that everything before the Cross is simply for a previous dispensation. Yet the early Church and previous generations of the Church understood the need to see the redemptive plan revealed in the Old Testament.

“Now these things, brethren, I have figurately applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.”

1 Corinthians 4: 6

Let us apply this principle throughout- don’t go beyond the Word. May we not add, take away from or alter the Word.
