Paul was a powerful man whose life was wrecked by the love of Christ. He would write most of the New Testament and would bring clarity to the Gospel, the impact of salvation, and even the love of Christ. In his letter to the Romans, he reveals the law of the Spirit.

Let us remember that all things in Creation, from the sub-atomic level, through the human system, all the way to the galaxies of the universe are all governed by complex laws. This is not surprising as we serve a God of law and order. We have order through these laws because they establish what is absolute, what is correct, and what actions to take to correct things.

The problem is that we don’t like laws and do not submit to them. Because in submitting to a law we come under it and its influence with its consequences. The law is greater than us and our opinions.

We must understand that on this Fallen planet, we are walking as mere humans held that are held captive to the law of sin and death, or we walk as new creations in Christ under the Law of the Spirit and life.

Laws are based on where you abide and who you are, and if we abide as a new creation in Him, then the Law of the Spirit will apply in your life. This law enables us to live a new life in freedom and victory. But we must consecrate ourselves to Him and place ourselves in Him in the Secret Place. This law must identify, restrain, motivate, and guide us.

As new creations, we are called to live by a new order, the order of the Spirit. However, must abide in what I call the Romans 7 situation, in which they long to walk holy and righteous, but as Paul wrote-

“But I see a different law in the members of my body, waging the war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death.”

Romans 7: 23-24

This is the place where most Christians become stuck. They desire to do right, but as hard as they try to walk and live right, there is something in them, and they always fail. The harder they try to be holy, the more they fail. We can’t live a holy life based on the law of sin and death. The flesh can never meet the absolute requirements of the law. We need Him.

But through the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, everything changed. John G Lake said of the Holy Spirit-

The Spirit of God is like the bread that the disciples held in their hands; when it became filled with the Spirit of God it multiplied in their hands. When they broke off some there was more remaining than when they began. The Spirit of God is creative, generative, constructive, and the more you give the more you receive.

The other night, as I was praying, the Lord explained that one of the most dangerous places to abide is where we Word and the promises and feel we don’t need any fresh revelation on them. We can quote than back and forwards. But they h become stale and yesterday’s manna. But because we know the promises, we see no need to seek His face for a fresh revelation of these promises. Faith always comes by hearing. We need a NOW faith by a NOW hearing, through a NOW abiding in His NOW Word.

We must daily come to receive the Bread of His Presence. The Living Word always grows, increases, and multiplies inside us. It is a living force that imparts to us His divine nature. Let’s go back to the Book of Romans-

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.”

Romans 8: 1, 2

Life is always increasing, breathing, and reproducing. It moves and brings change. This life which He is, He made available through His Holy Spirit. This life in us should change us and lift us. We no longer live struggling to overcome the old but rather allow His life in us to kill the old and bring forth the new.

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells

in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you. So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh… For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Romans 8: 12, 14

We no longer have to walk held captive by our flesh, always struggling to overcome the old. But in this new life, we are to be led by the Spirit. Lake explained the key of the kingdom and this new life. He explained-

“Give and it shall be given unto you.” Blessed be God. The greatest giver is the greatest receiver. He who gives most receives most: God’s divine law. The reverse of God’s law is always evidenced in the soul of man as selfishness.

The degree that we surrender and give to the Holy Spirit, we are able to receive from Him His strength and the fullness of the new life. As we abide in the Secret Place of His Presence and fix our eyes on His face so that we might learn from Him, we are transformed. Lake explained-

About 90 percent of so-called Christianity is all spelled with four letters: D-O-N’-T. Don’t do this and don’t do that—the individual restraining himself, putting himself in a harness, walking according to laws and ordinances, etc. Why, bless God, Christianity is all contained in two letters: B-E. Not performing acts, but being the thing that God purposed.

In the Secret Place, we come to know Him, and as we wait on Him, we learn from Him. Most believers don’t take the time to learn from Him. Jesus demonstrated walking by the Law of the Spirit. His life was one of total surrender and walking in the Spirit. He overcame as He walked, surrendered, and was led by the Holy Spirit.

Lake explained-

“Sin an sickness and death, the triumvirate of darkness, that Jesus met and overcame were the original forces of evil in the world- the manifestation of the kingdom of darkness.”

As we abide in Him and receive from Him, we abide in the darkness and receive liberty from Him. Jesus came to destroy the power of darkness and bring us into the place of an overwhelming victory.

Jesus understood that sin was of the heart and of our nature. We can overcome the flesh with the flesh. We need a change of nature. Peter explained-

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and Lord, seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”

2 Peter 1: 3-5

In the wonderful Secret Place, we are invited to know Him and receive from Him through His Word those precious promises. These promises impart to us His divine nature. In the Secret Place, we receive revelation knowledge of the Word, and the living Word when received comes into us and begins to impart to us that life and His nature to us.

Lake explained-

“Sin is of the heart. It is in the nature. Jesus came to reconstruct man’s nature and give him, instead of his own evil nature, the nature of God. Sin has made the nature of man vile. Christ came to give him deliverance from this nature and give him a new nature, the divine nature.”

With this new nature, we begin to walk naturally by the order of the Spirit. Here we enter into the Law of the Spirit and life.

“For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile, toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not able to do so.”

Romans 8: 5-6

We refuse to compromise and live a life in the flesh but we live in the Spirit. The wording in these few verses is so powerful. Further, the tense Paul used just as he used in the first verse, calls not just for a one-off action. But rather a constant doing or a constant setting of our mind on the things of the Spirit. Many people seek to survive off of yesterday’s manna. In their head, they have a rich knowledge of the Word, but we must always walk in the Now Word. One of the most dangerous places we can abide is where we abundantly know the Word, we can quote it back to front, but we fail to abide in fresh revelation and a fresh hearing of the Word. Faith comes not by what was heard, but a NOW faith comes by what is NOW being heard.

To set our minds and to be found in Him, demands a consecration to Him. Lake said-

The impression I wish to leave is this: that a hundredfold consecration to God takes the individual forever out of the hands of all but God. This absolute consecration to God, this triune salvation, is the real secret of the successful Christian life.

Further, it is not just hearing the Word but how we hear the Word. Do we hear it from the flesh’s perspective? Or by the Spirit?

Lake said-

Jesus said, “Take heed therefore how ye hear” (Luke 8:18), not what you hear. One cannot help what he hears, but he can take heed how he hears. When it is something offensive to the Spirit and the knowledge of God, shut the doors of the nature against it, and it will not touch you.

If we are found in Him and give our ear to accurately hear the Holy Spirit, then anything that offends Him we cast off and refuse.

Further, Lake explained-

“The real child of God challenges darkness, challenges sin, challenges sickness. The Lord came to destroy sickness out of the lives of men to make possible the heaven of God in their hearts and lives now. Sin and sickness and death must be blotted out. That is the reason, dear friends, that Christianity is always a challenger. Christianity is a thing of strength. Real religion is a source of power. It is the dynamite of God. The Holy Spirit gives the overcoming grace and strength essential to destroy sin, to destroy sickness, to overcome death.”

This new life is about the intimacy of relationships and His abiding in us. As we abide in the intimate relationship, He is abiding to fully abide in us and through us. Paul prayed-

“that He would grant you, according to the riches of is His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love…”

Ephesians 3: 16-17

As we seek His face and come to know Him through our free will surrendering of our being in the Secret Place, He comes and makes His home in us. As He does, our whole life becomes grounded and rooted in His love. Here as Lake explains, we must

“The pride of your heart and the love of the world have not been laid on the altar of Christ.”

This brings us into the place where His love reigns in us. In this hour, we must learn to yield and allow as the proof of our yielding in the Secret Place, His love. Lake said

God is demanding from us a demonstration of the power of God, the love of God, and the character of Christ that is worthy of the day, the hour, the message, and the time in which we live. Now is a special time when the Spirit of God is being poured upon mankind in preparation for the hour when Jesus shall return and call the saints of God to His own glory.

Here we fulfill the royal law of love, which is the Law of the Spirit.
